The Village

Crantock near Newquay

Crantock, known in Cornish as Lanngorrek, is an ancient village dating back to around 460 AD, when Irish hermits founded an oratory on the site.

At the heart of the village are three welcoming pubs. The Bowgie Inn enjoys spectacular clifftop views over Crantock Bay, while the village's own Old Albion is a traditional thatched inn with low beams, serving honest Cornish pints since the 1700s. Directly opposite that sits the family-friendly Cornishman, offering a relaxed atmosphere for all ages.

Crantock Beach is popular for surfing, walking and summer swimming. The beach kiosks, car parks and seasonal lifeguards make it an easy place to spend the day, and a small cave on the sand still carries carvings and verse attributed to a local artist from nearly a century ago.

The wide, west-facing beach backed by dunes, sheltered by Pentire Head is perfect for beach days, walks and surfing.

Newquay looks very close on a map but the estuary means it's a surprisingly long walk to get there. The 85 bus runs between the two locations.

While we enjoy plenty of beautiful days, a dry day in Cornwall is never guaranteed and the Atlantic can occasionally remind us who's in charge. Most notably, Storm Goretti in 2026 dramatically reshaped Crantock Beach, adding another chapter to the coastline's history.
